A great playground not far from the interstate with bathrooms and a larger sports complex nearby, the Ellsworth playground does Bridgeport proud.
I wasn't expecting too much from one of the few cities along the corridor that I've only seen at 3 mph. Stuck in bumper-to-bumper, we bailed on the highway to give the five-year-old a break. Getting to the park was straight forward, basically a straight line from the exit ramp and there was plenty of parking.
We arrived just before the start of a local kid's softball league team, so the concession stand was open. I wouldn't count on this as a regular snack stop though. There were good, clean bathrooms, and if those were closed there was also a porta potty.
The playground and surrounding park were busy with local neighborhood kids, and one mom had brought a bubble rocket launcher that several of the kids were playing with.
The playground itself had plenty of good climbing features. Thematically it was ocean-ish, with the slides looking a bit like a white water wave (I think that's what they were going for, or maybe a cloud).
There was a big splash pad that looked like a whale. Thankfully it was off when we pulled in because we still had a few hours of driving ahead of us, and since its dead center on the playground, I could imagine this is a problem at some times of the year when the water is on.
Overall I thought this was generally a decent playground to stop at, especially pulling it off a random Google map listing. We were just a few hundred feet from the water, too, so it felt like we were already at the seaside.
The ball field is also known as Brewster's cove, named for Captain Caleb Brewster. His homestead was once connected to the property.
