You may not even realize this playground is technically an award winning design, but it is modern and recently refreshed.
The newly renovated playground serves as a school yard for the adjacent public school during the week. The playground is attached to the grounds of PS 152 and PS 315 and is part of the schoolyards to playgrounds program in the city. The design is a 2021 honor award winner, meaning a lot of people patted themselves on the back for this one.
This is a perfectly nice playground that we came across on a Saturday afternoon. It was warm for late fall, and lots of kids were out using the space.
The main piece of climbing equipment was giving off pirate ship vibes. I'm a sucker for themed playgrounds so this one got me excited. There was also wooden structures like the old-style playgrounds they let us play on in the 1980s. These seemed well worn.
Along the front was a little nature trail which proved the ideal place to change a diaper since there were no bathrooms around here. I'm sure in the full bloom of summer this trail is lovely.
The playground overall felt a little disjointed and chaotic. The pirate ship and the wooden pieces didn't really commune in any meaningful way. The adjacent sports field was filled with people kicking balls around, but this also added to the chaos.
There is a running track, artificial turf, and some short basketball hoops for little kids.
This is a decent school playground, but definitely the kind of thing where a little more actual thought as to how children play could have gone into this playyard.
The playground received $2.2m for renovations in 2019.
